1. Worthy of respect; fitted to awaken esteem; deserving
regard; hence, of good repute; not mean; as, a respectable
citizen. ``The respectable quarter of Sicca.'' --J. H.

No government, any more than an individual, will
long be respected, without being truly respectable.
