Umbrageous \Um*bra"geous\ (?; 277), a. [Cf. F. ombraqeux shy,
   skittish, suspicious, in OF. also, shady. See {Umbrage}.]
   1. Forming or affording a shade; shady; shaded; as,
      umbrageous trees or foliage.

            Umbrageous grots and caves Of cool recess, o'er
            which the mantling vine Lays forth her purple grape.
