Synaeresis \Syn*[ae]r"e*sis\, Syneresis \Syn*er"e*sis\, n. [NL.,

The union, or drawing together into one syllable, of two
vowels that are ordinarily separated in syllabification;
synecphonesis; -- the opposite of di[ae]resis.
