Sumptuous \Sump"tu*ous\, a. [L. sumptuosus, fr. sumptus expanse,

Involving large outlay or expense; costly; expensive; hence,
luxurious; splendid; magnificient; as, a sumptuous house or
table; sumptuous apparel.
