   vb. n. {Sniffing}.] [OE. sneven; akin to snivel, snuff; cf.
   Dan. snive to sniff. See {Snuff}, v. t.]
   To draw air audibly up the nose; to snuff; -- sometimes done
   as a gesture of suspicion, offense, or contempt.
