Loyal \Loy"al\, a. [F. loyal, OF. loial, leial, L. legalis, fr.

   1. Faithful to law; upholding the lawful authority; faithful
      and true to the lawful government; faithful to the prince
      or sovereign to whom one is subject; unswerving in
      allegiance.
