Steatite \Ste"a*tite\, n. [Gr. ?, ?, fat, tallow: cf. F.

A massive variety of talc, of a grayish green or brown color.
It forms extensive beds, and is quarried for fireplaces and
for coarse utensils. Called also {potstone}, {lard stone},
and {soapstone}.
