Inscrutable \In*scru"ta*ble\, a. [L. inscrutabilis : cf. F.

   Unsearchable; incapable of being searched into and understood
   by inquiry or study; impossible or difficult to be explained
   or accounted for satisfactorily; obscure; incomprehensible;
   as, an inscrutable design or event.
