   1. The act of confining, or the state of being confined;
      imprisonment. --Glanvill.

   2. (Med.)
      (a) Formerly, strangulation, as in hernia.
      (b) A constriction of the hernial sac, rendering it
          irreducible, but not great enough to cause
          strangulation.
