Dowse \Dowse\, v. t. [Cf. 1st {Douse}.]
   1. To plunge, or duck into water; to immerse; to douse.

   2. [Cf. OD. doesen to strike, Norw. dusa to break.] To beat
      or thrash. [Prov. Eng.] --Halliwell.
