   (kr[=a]vd); p pr. & vb. n. {Craving}.] [AS. crafian; akin to
   Icel. krefja, Sw. kr[aum]fva, Dan. kr[ae]ve.]
   1. To ask with earnestness or importunity; to ask with
      submission or humility; to beg; to entreat; to beseech; to
      implore.

            I crave your honor's pardon.          --Shak.

            Joseph . . . went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved

   2. To call for, as a gratification; to long for; hence, to
      require or demand; as, the stomach craves food.
