Zoophyta \Zo*["o]ph"y*ta\, n. pl. [NL., from Gr. zw^,on an animal + fyto`n a plant.] (Zo["o]l.) An extensive artificial and heterogeneous group of animals, formerly adopted by many zo["o]logists. It included the c[oe]lenterates, echinoderms, sponges, Bryozoa, Protozoa, etc. Note: Sometimes the name is restricted to the C[oe]lentera, or to the Anthozoa.
