Imprest \Im"prest\, n. [Cf. It. impresto, imprestito, LL.

to serve.]
A kind of earnest money; loan; -- specifically, money
advanced for some public service, as in enlistment. --Burke.
The clearing of their imprests for what little of their
debts they have received. --Pepys.
