Crocin \Cro"cin\ (kr?"s?n), n. [Gr. ???? saffron.] (Chem.)
   (a) The coloring matter of Chinese yellow pods, the fruit of
       {Gardenia grandiflora}. --Watts.
   (b) A red powder (called also {polychroite}), which is made
       from the saffron ({Crocus sativus}). See {Polychroite}.
