Externe \Ex`terne"\ ([e^]ks`t[e^]rn"), n. [F.]
   An extern; esp;, a doctor or medical student who is in
   attendance upon, or is assisting at, a hospital, but who does
   not reside in it.

Externe \Ex`terne"\, n. [F. Cf. {Extern}.] (med.)
   An officer in attendance upon a hospital, but not residing in
   it; esp., one who cares for the out-patients.
