Carinatae \Car`i*na"t[ae]\, n. pl. [NL., Fem. pl. fr. L.
   {carinatus}. See {Carinate}.]
   A grand division of birds, including all existing flying
   birds; -- So called from the carina or keel on the
   breastbone.
