Any one of several species of fringilline birds of the genus
{Calcarius} (or {Plectrophanes}), and allied genera. The
Lapland longspur ({C. Lapponicus}), the chestnut-colored
longspur ({C. ornatus}), and other species, inhabit the
United States.
